What to Wear for School Photos
One of the most common questions I get asked repeatedly is, “What should my child wear for school photos?” Since all of my school photos are taken from the waist up, it really simplifies the situation, allowing you to not have to worry about coordinating pants and shoes. It's a perfect opportunity to embrace that business on top, party on the bottom kind of dressing! To help you make the most of school picture day, here are three helpful tips for ensuring those photos turn out beautifully!
1. Pick colors that flatter your child!
White might seem like an easy choice against a black background, but it is really one of the worst colors to choose. It tends to wash out the subject and can come across a little stiff. Give your child a shirt that brings out the color of their hair or eyes and you can’t go wrong!
2. Avoid neon colors and bold graphics.
You can still let your child wear their favorite Bluey shirt, and you'll likely enjoy the photos just the same. However, graphic shirts and bright neon colors can take attention away from your child in the picture and more often than not get cropped. Your child can express their personality in other ways, like with their jewelry or a headband, a fun pattern or layers, or just with their smile!
3. Ironing and Layers
I am as guilty as the next mom for not ironing any of my kids clothes on a regular basis, but this is one time it really makes a difference! If the collar is wonky it is so hard for me in the few minutes I get with each child to fix it just right instead of focusing on getting them to smile.
I love layers with pullovers, cardigans, jean jackets or jumpers but just keep an eye out for puffy shoulders that might come across strange when not getting the full torso in the photo.
Did you know you can get modern school portraits even if I don’t photograph at your school?
