There are so many things to prepare for when time for your kids to start back to school. One of the fun things that you can plan ahead for is photographing back-to-school memories. Here are 3 ways to capture those memories no matter what grade your child is in.
1. Use a sign
Whether it is printed from Pinterest or handmade, having a sign that your kid can hold will help them to know that to do and gives reference to the photo for the future. You can put their age, what grade, favorite things, teachers name, graduation date, etc. I typically shoot these the morning of the first day outside my front door. This location makes it easy for me to shoot this photograph again on the last day of school so that I can truly compare them side by side.
2. Full Body Photograph
Don’t you want to remember how tall they were, what their shoes looked like all clean and new, and their excitement to start off the year?! They change so much from the beginning to the end of the year and this is always a good barometer of that!
3. Get in the frame
Typically this is the hardest photograph to get but if you know ahead of time that this is a photograph you want it makes it a little easier to accomplish. In the past I have taken the photo of my kids with their first day of school and then handed off the camera to my husband to get me in a few pictures. This doesn't have to be award winning but it will be consistent with your others and I have always been grateful to have a few images with myself in them to document the day.
I’m not sure I’m quite ready for getting back on a strict schedule, but knowing that they love school and are looking forward to it always makes it easier.
This session was just a complete dream! I could totally relate to everything this new family of three was experiencing after bringing their baby boy into the world, right down to his name, Luke! I don’t think I have ever seen a baby that loved to be swaddled more than him, which had me immediately run out and purchase a Lou Lou wrap!

This family is near and dear to my heart. Little Eli was born right before Christmas and after the hustle and bustle of the holidays I was able to finally meet him! This lifestyle newborn session showed how loved he is by his entire family! He is an answer to many prayers and is such a blessing! Welcome to the world Eli!!

!!What A Year!!
2018 was a year of change!! After much prayer and contemplation, I went full time with my photography business at the beginning of the year and I can honestly say that it was undoubtably THE best decision!
Here is a quick recap of 2018:
I photographed families that have been with me since the beginning
I met quiet a few new families
I began to offer a Baby Plan so that I could see those sweet newborns grow and document their milestones
I stepped out of my comfort zone and got into commercial photography for Bella Vita, Itty Bitty Bella and The Backroom
I taught a camera class to multiple moms to teach them how to operate their camera in manual mode
I took pictures of baseball teams and branched out into professional headshots
I photographed my first preschool offering classic fine art images to over 250 students
I loved each and every session this year and I am SO thankful to the families that I have worked with this year!
I have been photographing this family for a few years and I was thrilled when the mom emailed me from the hospital to tell me that she had had a baby girl! You can see her maternity session here and you will be seeing more of baby Hannah Kate as the year goes on because she is a part of my Baby Plan where I will document her milestones along the way. Her two big brothers didn't phase her a bit and their at home newborn session was all about pink and the new girl in town!

Being a boy mom myself, I can totally relate to a mom of three boys! I have had the privilege of photographing each of these three boys as newborns and they have each been amazing during their photo sessions! I haven't quite figured out her secrets to getting each boy to cooperate both as newborns and as big boys, but I am so glad they do!
